At Ren fest 2006 in Bonner Springs

Hi, my name is Chip Houser.  Thank you for taking time to visit my site.  As you can tell, I am a Pirate “mate”, but you are probably asking yourself, WHY??  Well, let me tell you a little bit about ME.

Twenty years ago I began doing Civil War re-enactments.  A friend of mine asked me to participate in an event for the Coffeyville Community College.  Once I was there, I was hooked!  In 1992 my lovely wife, Gayle, even agreed to a “Civil War” themed wedding.  Our friends still talk about it today!

In 1993 I started making the transition to “Cowboy” re-enactments.  I performed with a group called Guns of Confussion Creek for many years.  In 1996 while on vacation with my family, we stopped in Cheyenne, Wyoming, so that I could perform in the annual Old West Gunfighters competition. We took 1st place!

In 1997 my family and I moved outside of Baldwin City, Kansas, and I formed a mounted group of re-enactors known today as the Santa Fe Desperados.  The Desperado’s have performed in many venues including: birthday parties, company picnics, parades, and even the American Royal.  Our specialty is arena shows for the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm in Olathe, Kansas.

My life long dream has been to become an actor on the big screen, and in 2004 my dream came true.  As a member of Western Trooper Productions, I was asked to portray Jesses James in a documentary filmed by Bill Kurtis for the History Channel.  This film led me to many more films in a series known as “Investigating History”.  With my acting career starting to launch, I was then asked to be apart of the cast and crew in a mini series filmed by Steven Spielberg.  This six week mini series was called, “Into the West”.

OK, why the Pirate you ask.  In 2003 after going to the movies with my family to see “Pirates of the Caribbean”, I knew that being a Pirate was the character for me!  Being the actor that I am, I could not pass up this opportunity.  I spent hours perfecting my costume, my walk, and even my drunken speech with hopes that someday this too would pay off.

My wife (Gayle) and two children (Dani and Dalton) are very proud of me, and without their help and encouragement, my dreams would not have come true.  I love them very much!
